In Orthopedic and Neurosurgery, we diagnose and treat diseases of the motor system that focus on bones and joints,
and diseases of the nervous system such as brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves.
Localization and diagnosis of lameness and gait abnormalities are made through various tests such as orthopedic and nervous system tests, gait analysis, imaging tests (X-ray, CT, MRI, ultrasound), blood tests, joint fluid tests, and arthroscopy. Since then, we are proceeding with appropriate treatment and surgery.
Surgical procedures are performed in separate operating rooms with x-rays and c-arms. In the case of anesthesia and pain management during and after surgery, the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine is in charge. In the case of some surgeries, we perform 3D printing with CT images before surgery to create a model of the patient's bones and conduct simulated surgery.

In the case of fracture surgery, various implants are prepared, and fracture repair surgery is performed by selecting implants suitable for the patient’s condition.
In patients who may delay the bone healing process, such as old age, long periods after fracture, large bone defects, we help patients recover using bone grafts.
In addition, we are conducting simulated surgery through 3D printing to obtain a good prognosis.
There are various joint surgeries and corrections for patellar luxation and cranial cruciate ligament rupture, which are common causes of hindl limb lameness. In the case of patella luxation surgery, the patient's condition is accurately evaluated through imaging and physical examinations, and appropriate surgical methods are selected to correct the factors that cause patella luxation for each patient. In the case of surgery for patients with craninal cruciate ligament rupture, it is largely divided into two types: fixation using a sturdy string (Antirotational suture) and a method of cutting and rotating bones (TPLO, CBLO). In addition, various surgeries are in progress, such as femoral head and neck osteotomy in the case of avascular necrosis of the femoral head or luxation of the hip joint, reduction of the hip joint using toggle pins, and joint fixation(arthrodesis) to stabilize the unstable joint.
In patients with bone deformities, CT scans are performed for accurate evaluation before correcting them, and the degree of deformation is calculated, and surgical correction is performed.
- Neurosurgery
- In our hospital, surgery for various neurological diseases is in progress. In intervertebral disc herniation (IVDD) cases, which is the most common spinal cord disease in dogs, and occurs frequently in cartilage dysplastic breeds, surgery to remove disc material is performed in patients with severe pain or paralysis. In the case of AAI (Atlantoaxis instability), which causes neurological symptoms due to instability between the cervical spine 1 and 2, surgical correction is performed with various fixation methods. In addition, various neurological diseases such as brain tumors, hydrocephalus, occipital bone dysplasia (COMS), and spinal cord tumors are treated surgically.
